Bell Ringing at St. George's

St. George's Ringing Choir

There are records going back to the 5th April 1886 when the choir was formed. The Reverend G.E. Frewer was rector of the parish at the time and there were nine members.

Sunday ringing was before the church service and we now keep that tradition on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month from 8.45am to 9.30am.

We also ring for weddings, funerals and special occasions such as Royal funerals, coronations, jubilees and special milestones such as anniversaries of D Day and VE Day celebrations. If you would like to hire bells for an upcoming wedding at St. George's, our fee is £150.

New recruits are always welcome to come and learn this challenging skill and maintain the art of campanology. We practice and train new ringers on a Thursday evening between 7pm and 8pm. However, it is best to check there is a practice by phoning Wendy on 01424 882727 first as due to work commitments it is not every week.
